We asked Hans Duym, Supply and ICT Infrastructure Manager at Gasunie*, for his stance on generating more love for the IT organisation.
How important is it for your IT organisation to have a good image?
According to Duym, it is of crucial importance to Gasunie. “We use the ‘I love my IT department’ coffee mug to show our users and our partners that we are working on the issue. Responses to the mug have been very positive.”
What have you done to achieve this?
Duym: “We simply started being a reliable partner by offering prompt and professional service. It inspires confidence.”
What would you never do again within this context?
“Thinking that you know it all has been a problem in the past. It led to the carrying out of tasks without first assessing whether it was the best approach. We definitely do things differently now,” according to Duym.
What advice would you give counterpart managers who are still at the start of the transition from ‘I hate...’ to ‘I love my IT department’?
Duym reiterates the motto that you become a reliable partner by providing prompt and professional service. “See to it that you climb the value ladder from a flat provider to a business enabler. That’s what you want to be for your clients.”
